In April 2019, I got an email on my phone that made me jump for joy in the middle of a clothing store - I'd been accepted into the first Breakthrough Initiative with the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, a scheme focusing on bringing more diverse voices into the comics industry. Over the course of 12 months, I'd go through mentorship to produce my own graphic novel for an anthology to be scheduled for publishing October 2020.

What came from that is Worri & Vort: The story of a forest sprite who's home is threatened by environmental pollution, forcing them to venture out into the strange wide world to search for and stop the cause.

The course began around the same time as the Extinction Rebellion riots in 2019, where all over the world, Climate Change protesters demanded answers from people in power with civil disobedience. This was my first experience of becoming aware of this as a protest tactic, and watching this group of people shut down entire areas of London in the name of environmental justice gave me inspiration to write about fighting for the natural world.
